Field Marshal Asim Munir Leaves for Tehran to Promote Regional Peace and Stability
ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have departed for Tehran, Iran, as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and stability, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
According to ISPR, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit will focus on Pakistan’s efforts to support a peaceful, sustainable and comprehensive resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
During the visit, the Pakistani delegation is expected to hold important meetings with Iranian officials and discuss matters of mutual interest, regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei had earlier confirmed that Field Marshal Asim Munir would visit Iran on Monday. According to Iranian state media IRNA, Baghaei said the visit is aimed at further strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
The Iranian spokesperson also said that the two sides would discuss important issues concerning bilateral relations and regional developments. The visit comes at a time when efforts are underway to address ongoing tensions and security challenges in the region.
Pakistan has maintained close contacts with both the United States and Iran and previously played a mediatory role during tensions between the two countries. Islamabad has repeatedly emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement for resolving regional disputes.
The visit also comes against the backdrop of stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran. According to the report, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 and subsequently began negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement. However, the talks later faced difficulties over issues including security guarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Between July 8 and July 24, the United States and Iran also exchanged attacks, with strikes targeting military and strategic sites.
Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran is therefore being viewed as part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic engagement aimed at supporting regional stability, strengthening ties with Iran and encouraging peaceful solutions to ongoing conflicts.
