Global Gold Price Surge Boosts Pakistan’s Official Reserves by Rs392 Billion

ISLAMABAD: A sharp rise in international gold prices has significantly increased the value of Pakistan’s official gold reserves, adding around Rs392 billion to their worth during the fiscal year 2025-26.

According to the available data, the value of Pakistan’s official gold reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan reached Rs2.334 trillion ($8.39 billion) by the end of the fiscal year on June 30, 2026.

The increase marks another major rise in the value of the country’s gold holdings. During the previous fiscal year, 2024-25, rising international bullion prices had increased the value of Pakistan’s official gold reserves by approximately Rs591 billion, taking their total value to Rs1.942 trillion by June 2025.

Pakistan also recorded a physical increase in its gold holdings during fiscal year 2025-26. The country added around 70 kilograms of gold, taking its total official gold reserves to approximately 64.82 tonnes.

The major increase in the rupee value of the reserves, however, was primarily driven by the strong performance of gold in international markets. Global gold prices rose by around 22.5 percent during the fiscal year, substantially increasing the dollar and rupee value of Pakistan’s holdings.

The rise in gold reserves comes as central banks around the world continue to closely monitor precious metals as part of their reserve-management strategies. Gold is generally considered a valuable reserve asset because it can provide diversification and act as a hedge against market and currency volatility.

For Pakistan, the increase in the value of official gold holdings strengthens the overall worth of its reserve assets, although changes in international gold prices can cause the value to fluctuate significantly from year to year.

The latest figures highlight the financial impact of the global gold rally on Pakistan’s official reserves, with both higher international prices and a modest increase in physical holdings contributing to the growth.
