New Provinces Issue: PPP and MQM Face Off in Sindh Assembly

MQM calls new administrative units the only solution to Sindh’s problems, while PPP opposes the division of Sindh

Karachi: Political tensions remained high in the Sindh Assembly for the second consecutive day as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) clashed over the issue of creating new administrative units in the province.

During the session chaired by Speaker Owais Qadir Shah, PPP lawmakers strongly opposed a motion against the administrative division of Sindh, while MQM members argued in favor of creating new administrative units.

Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah reiterated the PPP’s opposition to dividing Sindh, saying that the party does not want the province to be divided for the sake of a stronger Pakistan. He also referred to the past stance of Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal regarding the division of Sindh.

MQM lawmakers, however, maintained that the creation of new administrative units is the only solution to the problems faced by the people of Sindh. They argued that urban issues cannot be resolved without administrative restructuring and greater decentralization.

The issue triggered heated debate between government and opposition members, with both sides presenting arguments in support of their respective positions.

As the discussion continued, the Speaker adjourned the session and directed that the debate on the creation of new administrative units would continue on the third day.

The ongoing debate highlights growing political differences between the PPP and MQM over the administrative structure and future governance of Sindh.
