KP Makes Fitness Certificates Mandatory for Private School Vehicles
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has made valid fitness certificates mandatory for all vehicles used by private educational institutions to transport students.
According to a circular issued to principals of private schools across the province, every vehicle carrying students must have a valid fitness certificate and comply with all applicable legal and safety requirements.
The PSRA directed school administrations to strictly follow the instructions issued by the provincial Transport Department and ensure that all statutory requirements related to student transportation are fulfilled.
The authority stressed that vehicles used for transporting students must meet prescribed safety and fitness standards. School administrations have been warned to ensure full compliance with the regulations to protect students from potential risks during daily transportation.
The directive applies to private schools across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and places responsibility on school administrations to ensure that their transport arrangements meet the required standards.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has also directed district education officers to submit details of schools facing shortages of basic facilities or operating in double shifts through the department’s online system.
According to the Education Department, only 370 schools have so far submitted details of their basic facility requirements, while just 16 of these schools are operating in double shifts.
The department has urged schools that have not yet submitted their requirements to provide the necessary information immediately, as the deadline is approaching.
Officials said the collected data will help the government identify schools in need and incorporate their requirements into future development plans.
Schools have been advised to use the relevant section of the Education Department’s online information system to submit details regarding shortages of classrooms, basic facilities and other essential requirements.
The latest measures highlight the authorities’ focus on improving safety standards in educational institutions while also identifying infrastructure gaps in schools across the province.
The mandatory fitness certification for private school vehicles is particularly significant for student safety, as thousands of children rely on school transport every day. Ensuring that vehicles are properly inspected and legally fit for operation could help reduce the risks associated with unsafe or poorly maintained school transport.
