TikTok May Introduce Direct Money Transfer Feature
ISLAMABAD: TikTok may be preparing a new feature that could allow users to send money directly to each other through private chats.
According to media reports, the feature could be powered by TikTok Pay, the company’s payment service already used for TikTok Shop transactions in some Southeast Asian markets.
Possible references to the feature were reportedly found in the hidden code of a new TikTok version for iPhones in the United States. The code suggests users could send money along with messages, while recipients could accept payments through a “Tap to Accept” option.
The proposed system could work similarly to peer-to-peer payment services such as Venmo and Zelle, allowing users to transfer money without leaving the TikTok app.
However, TikTok has not officially announced the feature. According to Bloomberg, the company said it had not tested a money-transfer service and did not provide any information about a possible launch date.
TikTok has increasingly explored opportunities in financial services. Reports have also indicated that the company has been seeking opportunities to offer lending and payment services in Brazil.
If introduced, the feature could significantly expand TikTok’s role beyond short-form videos and online shopping, potentially turning the platform into a digital payment service as well.
The development also reflects a broader trend among social media platforms to integrate financial services into their apps.
