Imran Khan Has Made No Deal, Says PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has rejected speculation that party founder Imran Khan has reached or is seeking any deal with the government, saying the former prime minister remains firm on his position.
Speaking to reporters outside the Supreme Court on Monday alongside senior lawyer Latif Khosa, Barrister Gohar said Imran Khan does not make deals and questioned why he would have spent years in prison if he intended to negotiate an agreement.
Gohar also discussed the party’s efforts to secure a hearing on a contempt petition concerning Imran Khan’s medical treatment. He said PTI had sought a meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, but as the chief justice was unavailable, Gohar and Latif Khosa met the Supreme Court registrar.
According to Gohar, the registrar assured them that the petition would be numbered and placed before the chief justice for early fixation.
The PTI chairman said the petition concerns the alleged non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s August 18 order regarding Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment.
He claimed that instead of being transferred to Shifa International, Imran Khan was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on August 21. Doctors examined him there before he was returned to Adiala Jail.
Gohar termed the decision to take Khan to PIMS instead of Shifa a violation of the Supreme Court’s directive. He said the party wanted all recommended medical tests to be conducted and called for Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma, and personal physician Dr Faisal Sultan to be included in the medical board.
He further said the health and well-being of the imprisoned former prime minister had become a matter of international concern and urged that the issue should not be politicized.
The government, however, has maintained that security concerns led authorities to take Imran Khan to PIMS, where a team of specialists examined him and declared him medically fit.
The controversy remains linked to the Supreme Court’s August 18 directive, while PTI has sought an early hearing on its contempt petition and expects the court to ensure implementation of its earlier order.
