57-Year-Old Man Drowns in Swabi Stream, Body Recovered After Six Hours
SWABI: A 57-year-old man drowned in Dubian Khwar in Swabi district, with his body recovered after a six-hour search and rescue operation, Rescue 1122 said.
According to Rescue 1122, the victim was identified as Shafiqur Rehman, 57. The incident was reported to the Rescue 1122 Swabi control room, following which a specialised diving team was immediately dispatched to the site.
Rescue divers launched a search operation to locate the missing man. After continuously searching the water for around six hours, the team successfully recovered Shafiqur Rehman’s body.
The body was later handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal and administrative procedures, Rescue 1122 said.
The incident comes amid heavy rainfall and flooding in several parts of Swabi district. Torrential rains have caused a sudden rise in water levels, resulting in flooding in residential areas and the submergence of several roads.
Local officials said rainwater and runoff entered multiple homes, while several streets were inundated, making movement difficult for residents.
Rescue teams and the local administration have been deployed in affected areas to assess the situation, drain accumulated water and provide assistance to families whose homes have been affected by flooding.
The recent weather conditions have raised concerns among residents, particularly in areas located near streams and other low-lying locations. Authorities have urged people to remain cautious and avoid going near swollen streams and waterways during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and windstorms in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the weekend. The National Disaster Management Authority has also advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas and follow official weather and safety advisories.
Swabi is considered vulnerable to flooding during the monsoon season due to its network of rivers, streams and low-lying areas. Seasonal waterways can experience rapid increases in water levels following intense rainfall, creating dangerous conditions for nearby communities.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures and immediately report emergencies to rescue services.
