Pakistan opener suffers low-grade calf strain as PCB medical team monitors his recovery

LONDON: Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq’s further participation in the ongoing second Test against England at Lord’s will depend on his recovery from a calf injury.

Imam suffered the injury on the opening day of the Test after developing a calf strain. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) later confirmed through scans that the batter had sustained a low-grade strain.

According to the PCB, its medical team is closely monitoring Imam’s condition, while a decision regarding his further participation in the Test will be taken based on his recovery and fitness.

The second Test between Pakistan and England is currently underway at Lord’s, with Pakistan opting to bowl first after winning the toss.

Meanwhile, England were dismissed for 290 runs in their first innings on the second day of the Test. Jamie Smith top-scored for the hosts with 61 runs, while Jordan Cox scored 55.

Pakistan’s bowling attack impressed under favourable conditions, with Mohammad Abbas claiming four wickets and Mohammad Ali taking three wickets.

England resumed their innings on the second morning with Gus Atkinson unbeaten on 34 and Josh Tong on one. The hosts had ended the opening day at 248 for nine after 56 overs.

Pakistan’s fast bowlers made early inroads into the English batting lineup before Cox and Smith attempted to rebuild the innings with valuable half-centuries.

However, Pakistan eventually wrapped up the English innings at 290, giving their batting lineup an opportunity to take control of the match.

Imam-ul-Haq’s fitness will now remain a key concern for Pakistan as the team looks to build a strong response with the bat at Lord’s.
