KP Govt Approves Another Underpass for Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Jameel Chowk Underpass, a project being developed under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan.

The underpass has been given a 90-day completion deadline, with the chief minister directing officials to complete the project even before the stipulated timeframe. He said the provincial government was focused on accelerating development work across Peshawar to provide better infrastructure and facilitate citizens.

Afridi said several projects under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan were progressing rapidly, while a number of schemes had already been completed or were nearing completion. He reiterated that development projects should be completed within their assigned timelines so that the public could benefit from them without unnecessary delays.

According to the chief minister, development projects worth approximately Rs200 billion are currently underway in Peshawar under the revitalization plan.

He also praised Provincial Minister for Local Government Mina Khan and officials of the Local Government Department for monitoring development schemes and ensuring progress on ongoing projects.

Afridi said the current year had been declared a year of development, construction and prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the provincial government aiming to accelerate infrastructure development across the province.

Speaking about provincial revenue, the chief minister claimed that KP had exceeded its Rs129 billion revenue target for the 2025-26 financial year by collecting more than Rs150 billion.

For the current financial year, the provincial government has set a revenue collection target of Rs180 billion, with an eventual goal of increasing collections to Rs200 billion.

The Jameel Chowk Underpass is expected to become another major component of Peshawar’s ongoing infrastructure development under the revitalization plan.
