ADB President Masato Kanda Re-elected for Second Term

ADB Board of Governors unanimously backs Kanda for another five-year term

Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda has been re-elected for a second term with the unanimous support of the ADB Board of Governors.

Kanda’s new five-year term will begin on November 24, 2026. He was elected as the ADB’s 11th president in November 2024 and assumed office in February 2025.

Following his re-election, Kanda said that Asia and the Pacific are facing new economic and global challenges, adding that the ADB must serve as a strong pillar of stability in the region.

He said the ADB would take large-scale measures according to the evolving needs of its member countries, with the institution’s ultimate goal being to help build a better future for the next generation.

Kanda’s second term is expected to focus on strengthening regional economic stability, supporting sustainable development and addressing emerging challenges across Asia and the Pacific.

The ADB plays a major role in financing development projects, infrastructure, climate initiatives and economic reforms across its member countries.
