Ishaq Dar Meets SCO Secretary-General, Receives Assurance of Full Support for Pakistan’s Priorities

Islamabad: Pakistan has assumed the 2026-27 chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), giving the country an important opportunity to promote regional cooperation and advance shared priorities through the organisation’s platform.

According to the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with the SCO Secretary-General in Bishkek. The meeting focused on Pakistan’s chairmanship, the organisation’s future agenda and various areas of mutual cooperation.

The SCO Secretary-General congratulated Pakistan on assuming the chairmanship and expressed support for the priorities and strategy outlined by Pakistan. He also assured Islamabad of full cooperation throughout its term as chair.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar briefed the SCO Secretary-General on Pakistan’s priorities and strategy for its chairmanship. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation among member states and advancing the organisation’s shared objectives.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Pakistan and the SCO Secretariat agreed to maintain close coordination and continued cooperation during Pakistan’s chairmanship. Both sides also agreed to make joint efforts to advance the organisation’s priorities effectively.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and Pakistan’s National Coordinator for the SCO Muhammad Faisal also attended the meeting.

Pakistan’s chairmanship comes as the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation continues to play an important role in promoting cooperation among member states in areas including regional peace and stability, economic connectivity, trade, energy, technology and development.

During its chairmanship, Pakistan is expected to use the SCO platform to promote regional cooperation and shared development while strengthening engagement with member countries.

Officials said enhancing coordination and cooperation with SCO member states would remain among Pakistan’s key priorities during its 2026-27 chairmanship.

The Foreign Office said close coordination between Pakistan and the SCO Secretariat would play an important role in successfully implementing the chairmanship agenda and advancing the organisation’s priorities.

Pakistan and the SCO Secretariat also agreed to continue cooperation on various activities, meetings and joint initiatives throughout Pakistan’s chairmanship.
