Absent Government Employees Face Action in KP, Salaries Withheld
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has initiated action against government employees who failed to appear during an ongoing physical verification drive in the province’s tribal districts.
According to sources, the verification process is being conducted to confirm the presence and service status of government employees working in various departments across the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
As part of the exercise, notices were issued to employees requiring them to appear for physical verification. However, dozens of employees reportedly failed to appear despite receiving the notices.
Authorities have now taken an initial step against the absent employees by withholding their salaries and pensions until they complete the verification process.
Sources said the action is intended to ensure that government employees listed in official records are genuinely serving in their assigned positions and are physically present at their respective workplaces.
The verification drive is particularly focused on identifying discrepancies in official employee records and ensuring greater transparency in the government payroll system.
Officials have reportedly warned that employees who continue to ignore the verification process could face further departmental and disciplinary action. In the second phase, those who fail to establish their service status may potentially face termination from government service.
The KP government’s move comes as part of efforts to strengthen administrative oversight and prevent irregularities in government departments, particularly in areas where employee attendance and service records have previously faced scrutiny.
Employees whose salaries or pensions have been withheld are expected to complete the required verification process to have their cases reviewed by the relevant authorities.
The government has also indicated that the verification process will help distinguish genuine employees from those who may be absent from duty or whose records require further scrutiny.
The ongoing exercise is likely to continue across different departments and districts, with authorities expected to take additional action against employees who fail to comply with official verification requirements.
