Salman Ali Agha to Lead Pakistan at Headingley

LEEDS: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been ruled out of the first Test against England due to a finger injury, with Salman Ali Agha set to lead the national side in the series opener at Headingley on Wednesday.

Babar suffered the injury to his right hand during Pakistan’s practice match in Kent. He has since experienced pain and swelling, although scans have confirmed there is no fracture.

Head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed said the medical team is monitoring Babar’s condition and expressed hope that the batter could return for the second Test in seven or eight days.

Babar’s absence is a major setback for Pakistan, as the star batter remains one of the team’s key players. Salman Ali Agha will captain Pakistan in a Test match for the first time.

Sarfaraz Ahmed expressed confidence that the additional responsibility could also help Salman improve his batting form.

Pakistan’s preparations received a boost after they defeated a PCC Select XI in their practice match in Kent. Saud Shakeel scored a century, while the batting and bowling units gained valuable experience of English conditions.

Headingley is expected to offer assistance to fast bowlers, particularly if the pitch retains grass and provides movement. Mohammad Abbas is likely to play a key role for Pakistan, given his extensive experience of county cricket in England.

Shan Masood is also fit after recovering from a finger injury and is expected to return to the playing XI.

The first Test between Pakistan and England will begin on August 19 at Headingley, Leeds. Pakistan will face a major challenge in adapting to English conditions and dealing with England’s pace attack without their regular captain Babar Azam.
