Key Government Residences Vacated in Peshawar as Security Tightens

PESHAWAR: The MPA Hostel, Officers’ Mess and Shahi Guest Houses in Peshawar have been vacated amid an uncertain situation in the provincial capital, while security has been tightened around key government buildings.

According to official sources, all blocks of the MPA Hostel have been vacated, and the deployment of police and other law enforcement personnel inside and around the premises has been increased. Entry to the hostel has also been restricted.

Provincial ministers and members of the provincial assembly had already left the MPA Hostel. However, some relatives of lawmakers were reportedly still staying there and vacated the premises on Monday. Sources said some occupants left their belongings behind in their rooms while leaving.

Meanwhile, the Officers’ Mess and Shahi Guest Houses have also reportedly been cleared. Some senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders had been staying at these government residences.

There are also reports that PTI leaders from Punjab and Islamabad who were present in Peshawar have gone into hiding. However, these reports have not been independently verified.

Sources further indicated that government vehicles had been taken into custody as part of wider security measures accompanying the evacuation of key government residences.

Security arrangements have been strengthened across Peshawar, with movement around government residences and other important locations restricted. The measures come amid uncertainty in the provincial capital, although officials have yet to publicly provide complete details about the reasons behind the evacuations.

The situation remains under close observation as security personnel continue to guard important government installations.
