PHC Summons Controller of Examinations Over Zero Marks Awarded to Student
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has summoned the Controller of Examinations in a case involving a student who was awarded zero marks in his Biology theory paper, raising questions over the marking and evaluation process.
During the hearing, the court directed the relevant examination board authorities to produce the student’s original Biology answer script for physical inspection. The order was issued after concerns were raised over the unusually low marks awarded to the candidate, Abdul Moeiz.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court that the student had an excellent academic record and secured A-plus grades in all other subjects. According to the lawyer, receiving zero marks in a single subject despite performing exceptionally well in the remaining subjects raised serious concerns about the transparency and accuracy of the examination process.
The counsel argued that the result required further scrutiny to determine whether the answer script had been properly checked and whether the marks awarded reflected the student’s actual performance.
Taking note of the arguments, the Peshawar High Court directed the concerned examination authorities to present the original Biology answer sheet before the court. The physical inspection is expected to help the bench determine whether there was any error or irregularity in the marking process.
The court has also summoned the Controller of Examinations in connection with the matter. The appearance of the examination official is expected to provide further clarification regarding how the student was awarded zero marks in the theory paper.
The case highlights concerns about transparency and accountability in examination systems, particularly where a student’s performance in one subject differs significantly from their overall academic record.
Following the preliminary hearing and issuance of the written order, the Peshawar High Court adjourned further proceedings until August 25. The court is expected to examine the original answer script and hear further arguments before deciding the next course of action.
The outcome of the proceedings could provide clarity regarding the disputed marks and determine whether any correction or further examination of the student’s result is required.
