Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Iranian President, Agree to Maintain Diplomatic Contacts for Regional Peace

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The meeting focused on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, the regional situation, and matters related to peace and stability.

Held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, the meeting saw both leaders reaffirm their close and longstanding ties. They emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation across various fields.

The two leaders also discussed the need to accelerate the implementation of decisions reached during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June this year.

They reviewed efforts to enhance regional connectivity and expand people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Iran. Both sides stressed the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and cooperation to promote regional peace, stability and mutual interests.

President Masoud Pezeshkian has previously emphasized that Pakistan-Iran relations are rooted in centuries-old shared history, culture and religious ties.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Islamabad and Tehran to strengthen bilateral cooperation while maintaining diplomatic engagement on regional developments and issues of mutual concern.

Both countries have repeatedly expressed their commitment to expanding economic, diplomatic and regional cooperation, with greater connectivity and people-to-people exchanges seen as important areas for future collaboration.
