Three Jail Police Personnel Injured as Prisoner Protest Erupts in Swat

SWAT: Three jail police personnel were injured after a protest by prisoners turned violent at the Peetham Sub-Jail in Swat, according to police officials.

The injured personnel were identified as Amirullah, a resident of Shangla; Shakirullah from Bajaur; and Touseefur Rehman from Fatehpur.

According to the Swat Police spokesperson, the incident occurred when prisoners staged a protest inside the sub-jail. During the protest, the prisoners allegedly attacked the police personnel, leaving three officers injured.

The injured personnel were immediately shifted to the Central Hospital, where they were provided medical treatment. Doctors said that all three officials were out of danger and their condition was stable.

Following the incident, security at the sub-jail was tightened and additional police personnel were deployed to prevent any further unrest. Police authorities have also taken notice of the incident and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

Officials are expected to investigate the reasons behind the prisoners’ protest, the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the attack on the jail personnel.

Meanwhile, separate police encounters were reported in Peshawar, where one alleged criminal was killed and another suspect was injured.

According to police, the suspect killed during an encounter in the Pahari Pura area was identified as Qaisar alias “Qaisaray”. Police described him as an alleged robber, dacoit, drug dealer and extortionist who was wanted in 18 criminal cases.

Officials said Qaisaray was wanted by several police stations in Peshawar as well as Nowshera police.

In another encounter in the Shahpur police station area, a suspected snatcher identified as Sunnyar Kamal, son of Zakir, was injured. Police said the suspect was also wanted in multiple criminal cases.

According to authorities, weapons, stolen mobile phones and cash were recovered from the suspects. Police have registered cases in connection with the encounters and said further investigation is underway.

The incidents come as law enforcement agencies continue operations against criminal activity across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while authorities in Swat have increased security at the sub-jail following the prisoner unrest.
