Lawyers Across KP Boycott Court Proceedings Over Inflation

PESHAWAR: Lawyers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa boycotted court proceedings in protest against the rising petroleum levy and the continued increase in prices of essential commodities.

On the call of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, lawyers stayed away from the Peshawar High Court as well as district courts across the province, disrupting judicial proceedings.

The protesting lawyers said the government was continuously increasing the prices of petroleum products and essential food items, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to meet their daily expenses.

They demanded the immediate abolition of the petroleum levy and called for concrete measures to control inflation. The lawyers said the public was already facing severe financial difficulties due to rising prices and that providing relief to citizens was the government’s responsibility.

The lawyers also expressed solidarity with the Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide strike announced against inflation and the petroleum levy on the same day.

No untoward incident was reported during the boycott. However, courts across the province remained largely non-functional as judges adjourned cases due to the absence of lawyers.

The boycott comes amid growing concerns over inflation and the rising cost of petroleum products, with various groups calling on the government to take measures to reduce the financial burden on the public.
