Bilawal: PPP Will Stand by Public Decision on Creation of New Provinces

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that his party will stand by the public’s decision regarding the creation of new provinces in the country.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Bilawal said the PPP would support the wishes and views of the people on the issue of new provinces. He stressed that any decision involving changes to the country’s administrative structure should reflect the aspirations of the people and be made through the appropriate constitutional process.

Bilawal’s statement comes amid a renewed debate in political circles over the possibility of creating new provinces and smaller administrative units in Pakistan. Various political parties and groups have raised demands for new provinces in different parts of the country, arguing that smaller administrative units could improve governance, public service delivery and access to government institutions.

The PPP chairman’s remarks also seek to clarify the party’s position on the issue. Rather than presenting the party as completely opposed to new provinces, Bilawal indicated that the PPP would support a decision backed by public opinion and consensus.

The issue of creating new provinces remains politically sensitive, particularly in provinces where questions of territorial boundaries, resources, representation and administrative authority are involved. Any major change to provincial boundaries would also require compliance with constitutional requirements and political consensus.

Bilawal’s comments have therefore been viewed as an indication that the PPP is prepared to consider administrative restructuring if it is supported by the people concerned and carried out through the legal and constitutional framework.

The PPP chairman also emphasized the importance of addressing the issues for which elected representatives have been sent to parliament. His remarks suggest that political leaders should focus on improving governance and resolving public problems while allowing major structural decisions to be made through consultation.

The statement comes at a time when the question of new provinces has once again become a prominent topic in national politics. Supporters argue that smaller provinces or administrative units could make governance more effective and bring government services closer to citizens, while opponents warn that such changes could create political and constitutional disputes.
