Four for Abbas, Three for Mohammad Ali as England Bowled Out for 290 at Lord’s
LONDON: England were bowled out for 290 in their first innings on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s on Friday, with Pakistan’s pace attack completing an impressive comeback after the hosts had reached 248 for nine at the end of the opening day.
Jamie Smith was England’s top scorer with 61 runs, while Jordan Cox contributed 55. For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Mohammad Ali claimed three wickets as the visitors wrapped up England’s innings.
England resumed their innings on the second morning with Gus Atkinson unbeaten on 34 and Josh Tong on one. The hosts had finished the first day at 248 for nine after 56 overs.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to field, and their fast bowlers immediately benefited from the favourable conditions at Lord’s. The pace attack kept England’s batters under pressure and struck regularly during the innings.
England suffered an early collapse before Jordan Cox and Jamie Smith formed an important partnership to stabilize the innings. Both batters completed half-centuries, with Cox scoring 55 and Smith making 61.
However, Pakistan’s bowlers maintained their pressure and eventually dismissed the remaining English batters for 290, giving the visitors an opportunity to build an advantage with the bat.
Meanwhile, Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq’s further participation in the Test remains subject to his recovery from a calf injury. Imam suffered the injury on the opening day, and scans confirmed a low-grade calf strain, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The PCB medical team is monitoring Imam’s condition, with a decision on his participation in the remainder of the match to be taken based on his recovery.
The second Test at Lord’s is being closely watched as Pakistan seek to gain the upper hand against England, with their bowlers making a strong start by restricting the hosts to 290.
