Gunmen Open Fire on AC Miranshah’s Official Vehicle in North Waziristan
MIR ALI: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the official vehicle of Assistant Commissioner Miranshah Abdul Qayum in the Hadi Karam Kot area of Mir Ali Tehsil in North Waziristan on Sunday. All occupants of the vehicle remained safe in the attack.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 2:50pm on August 30, 2026, when the official vehicle was travelling from Miranshah towards Bannu in connection with official duties.
The vehicle, a white Toyota Revo bearing registration number A-2005, came under fire from an unidentified direction near Hadi Karam Kot in Mir Ali Tehsil. One bullet reportedly hit the vehicle, causing damage, but no one inside the vehicle sustained injuries.
Officials said Assistant Commissioner Miranshah Abdul Qayum was not present in the vehicle when the attack took place. His staff members and the driver were travelling in the official vehicle and managed to escape the incident unharmed.
Soon after the firing, security and law enforcement personnel reached the area and cordoned off the site. A search operation was launched in the surrounding areas to locate and apprehend the attackers.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the direction from which the firing took place and the possible motive behind targeting the government vehicle. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the security situation in parts of North Waziristan, particularly for government officials and other personnel travelling between districts.
The attack on the assistant commissioner’s official vehicle comes against the backdrop of previous incidents targeting government officials in the region. Officials have frequently faced security challenges while travelling on roads connecting North Waziristan with Bannu and other districts.
In a similar incident in the past, former Assistant Commissioner Miranshah Shah Wali Khan was killed while travelling from Miranshah towards Bannu within the limits of Bannu district.
The latest attack has prompted authorities to review security arrangements in the area. Security personnel are continuing efforts to trace those responsible for the firing, while further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the attack was specifically intended to target the assistant commissioner or whether the attackers had another motive. An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.
Residents and local authorities have expressed concern over the security situation and called for effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The safe escape of the driver and staff members has prevented casualties in the latest incident. However, the firing on an official government vehicle highlights the continuing security challenges faced by public officials travelling through sensitive areas of North Waziristan.
