Imam-ul-Haq Faces Possible Two-Year Ban as PCB Launches Inquiry
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering strict disciplinary action against wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and opener Imam-ul-Haq after both players were sent back to Pakistan during the ongoing tour of England.
According to sources, the PCB has taken the matter seriously and is forming a high-level investigative committee to examine issues related to Imam-ul-Haq.
A Geo News report stated that Imam-ul-Haq could face a one- to two-year ban over allegations concerning a fake injury in the past. However, the PCB is expected to conduct a detailed inquiry before making any final decision.
The board also reportedly has serious concerns about Mohammad Rizwan’s discipline. Sources said Rizwan is likely to be questioned by PCB officials in the coming days and could face strict disciplinary action depending on the outcome of the proceedings.
Rizwan is also reportedly unlikely to be selected for any Pakistan team in the near future. However, the PCB has not officially announced any ban or final disciplinary action against either player.
Why Were Rizwan and Imam Selected?
Earlier, the PCB issued a show-cause notice to a member of the national selection committee, seeking an explanation regarding the selection of players for the Test squad.
According to reports, the notice sought clarification over the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in the Test squad, as well as concerns surrounding selections for Pakistan’s tours of the West Indies and England.
The board reportedly demanded a written explanation regarding the basis for selecting the players, including consideration of their recent performances.
The concerned selection committee member was directed to respond to the show-cause notice within 24 hours of receiving it. The PCB also instructed that the matter be handled on an urgent and high-priority basis.
The notice was issued by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sami Ahmed Syed.
The final outcome regarding Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan will depend on the PCB’s investigations and proceedings. Until an official decision is announced, reports of a ban should be treated as allegations rather than a confirmed disciplinary action.
