The Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (SWAKP), in collaboration with the District Administration Peshawar and the Regional Sports Office, will hold a prestigious awards ceremony on June 9 at a local hotel in Peshawar to recognize the contributions of sports journalists from across the province.

According to SWAKP President Asim Shiraz, the ceremony aims to honor senior sports journalists for their outstanding services in promoting sports, encouraging athletes, and strengthening sports journalism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Awards, certificates of appreciation, and commemorative shields will be presented to distinguished journalists in recognition of their achievements.

Speaking about the initiative, Asim Shiraz said that sports journalists play a crucial role in highlighting sporting events, identifying emerging talent, and bringing sports-related issues to the attention of relevant authorities. He emphasized that their dedication and contributions deserve proper recognition and appreciation.

He noted that the Sports Writers Association has been serving the sports community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the past 45 years by promoting sports activities, supporting athletes, projecting a positive image of sports, and safeguarding the rights of sports journalists.

“The ceremony is not only intended to acknowledge the services of senior journalists but also to inspire young sports reporters to pursue professional excellence and contribute positively to the development of sports journalism,” he said.

Advisor to the Chief Minister on Sports, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, will attend the event as the chief guest. Prominent figures from the fields of sports, journalism, and social services are also expected to participate.

During the ceremony, prizes will also be distributed among athletes who excelled during the three-day sports festival organized for sports journalists.

Asim Shiraz expressed confidence that such initiatives would help strengthen sports journalism, promote a healthy sports culture across the province, and encourage the younger generation to actively participate in sporting activities.

The event is expected to bring together leading sports journalists, athletes, and stakeholders to celebrate the achievements and contributions of those working to advance sports and sports reporting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
