Devastating Floods in Nepal, Gold and Cash Worth Crores Recovered from Debris
Buildings and vehicles buried under several feet of debris as banks in affected areas also suffer severe damage
Recent devastating floods in Nepal have caused widespread destruction, burying numerous buildings, vehicles and other properties under several feet of debris. Several business centres and banks in the affected areas were also badly damaged. However, during rescue and relief operations, gold and cash worth crores of rupees were recovered from the debris of a local bank.
According to foreign media reports, Nepal Police recovered bank lockers buried under the debris of the Trishuli Dhunge branch after several hours of operations. Police personnel used heavy machinery and other equipment to gain access to the bank’s basement, where the lockers were located.
Police said the recovered lockers contained gold worth approximately NPR 500 million, along with NPR 15 million in cash and several important documents. The valuables and documents were transferred to a secure location to protect them from further damage or theft.
A video released by the police showed personnel clearing debris from the heavily damaged bank’s basement and removing the lockers with the help of heavy machinery. Rescue operations have been challenging due to the extensive destruction caused by the floods.
Authorities said rescue and rehabilitation efforts are continuing in the affected areas, while assessments of damaged infrastructure and properties are also underway. The natural disaster has severely disrupted normal life in several parts of the country.
Rescue teams are continuing their search for people and valuable belongings trapped beneath the debris. Authorities are also taking measures to move residents from vulnerable areas to safer locations.
The floods have caused significant damage to infrastructure and private property, while ongoing rescue operations are focused on assisting affected communities and recovering valuables from damaged buildings.
