Why Were Rizwan and Imam Selected? PCB Issues Show-Cause Notice
Selection committee member asked to explain the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in the Test squad
Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly issued a show-cause notice to a member of the national selection committee, seeking an explanation regarding the selection of players for the Pakistan Test squad.
According to reports, the notice specifically seeks clarification over the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in the Test squad. The PCB has also raised questions regarding the selection of players for Pakistan’s tours of the West Indies and England.
The concerned selection committee member has been asked to provide a written explanation regarding the selection process, the criteria used for choosing the players and their recent performances.
The PCB has reportedly directed the concerned official to respond to the show-cause notice within 24 hours of receiving it. The matter has been declared urgent and is being handled on a high-priority basis.
The notice was issued by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sami Ahmed Syed.
Misbah-ul-Haq Resigns as PCB Chief Selector
The development comes amid major changes within Pakistan cricket. Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has announced his resignation from the position of PCB chief selector, while he will continue serving as head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
Misbah said that after reviewing the previous 12 months and considering the heavy workload expected over the next two years, he believed it was the right time to focus all his energy and attention on a single role.
He described coaching as his passion and said his primary objective is to contribute to player development and help the national team achieve greater success.
Misbah had taken charge of both the head coach and chief selector positions in September 2019. He acknowledged that handling both responsibilities simultaneously had created significant pressure and that he had previously informed the PCB that managing both roles would be challenging.
The PCB said Misbah will continue to select the squads for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe and the away series against New Zealand. A new chief selector is expected to take charge from December 1.
PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan backed Misbah’s decision, saying Pakistan has three major global events and 10 international commitments ahead. According to him, Misbah believes he can deliver better results by concentrating solely on coaching.
Misbah also clarified that his decision was not connected to any meeting with the Prime Minister and was based purely on workload and team priorities.
During his tenure, Pakistan played 19 matches across all formats, recording seven wins and nine defeats.
