Provincial minister Meena Khan Afridi removed from all travel restriction lists
Peshawar High Court disposes of contempt petition after FIA confirms her name has been removed from PCL, ECL and PNIL
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has disposed of a contempt of court petition filed by provincial minister Meena Khan Afridi after authorities confirmed that her name has been removed from the Profile Control List (PCL) and all other travel restriction lists.
The petition was heard by Peshawar High Court Justice Syed Arshad Ali. During the hearing, the FIA director and other relevant officials appeared before the court and presented the latest status regarding the provincial minister’s travel restrictions.
Government officials informed the court that Meena Khan Afridi’s name had been removed from the PCL and all other relevant lists. According to the authorities, her name is currently not included in any list restricting international travel.
Representing the petitioner, Advocate Bashir Khan Wazir told the court that Meena Khan Afridi is a provincial minister and had received an invitation from a university in the United Kingdom.
The lawyer said that during an earlier hearing, the federal government had informed the court that the petitioner’s name was included in the National Police Immigration List (PNIL), while her name was not present on any other travel restriction list.
According to the counsel, the court had allowed Meena Khan Afridi to travel abroad. However, despite the court’s order, she was stopped at the airport.
During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General questioned the change in the petitioner’s travel plans. He said that the petitioner had initially stated that she intended to travel to Germany, while she was now planning to visit the United Kingdom. He added that no relevant document regarding the UK visit had been presented before the court.
Advocate Bashir Khan Wazir clarified that the initial plan was to travel to Germany, but the plan later changed after Meena Khan Afridi received an invitation from the University of Oxford in the UK.
The counsel maintained that as a provincial minister, Meena Khan Afridi had the right to travel abroad and there should be no objection to her international travel.
FIA officials once again confirmed before the court that the provincial minister’s name was no longer included in the PCL, ECL, PNIL or any other travel restriction list.
Following the government’s confirmation that her name had been removed from all relevant lists, the Peshawar High Court disposed of the contempt of court petition filed by Meena Khan Afridi.
