After YouTube, Is ‘Bilibili’ the New Earning Platform? New Revenue Opportunities Open for Creators
Chinese video platform Bilibili expands globally, reportedly offering better compensation opportunities to content creators
Karachi: China’s popular video-sharing platform Bilibili, often described as an alternative to YouTube, has accelerated efforts to expand its global presence, potentially creating new earning opportunities for content creators worldwide.
According to reports, Bilibili is reportedly offering creators around $0.70 per 1,000 views, equivalent to approximately Rs194 in Pakistani currency. However, the company has not officially confirmed this payment rate or the reported monetization model, so the figure should not be considered a guaranteed amount.
According to Chinese media reports, Bilibili has introduced several changes to its international version to make the platform more accessible to overseas users and creators. These changes reportedly include a simpler registration process, removal of mandatory identity verification and a more localized experience for international users.
Reports suggest that the company is attempting to attract global creators by offering potentially better financial opportunities compared with YouTube.
Bilibili began operating in 2009 and gradually became highly popular among young users in China. The platform is reportedly used by more than 350 million monthly active users, while some recent claims suggest the figure has exceeded 370 million.
The platform’s growing international reach can also be seen from the presence of renowned YouTuber and creator MrBeast, who began posting content on Bilibili in 2024. His follower count on the platform is reportedly around 8.8 million.
Experts say Bilibili’s appeal is not limited to potential financial benefits. The platform has developed strong communities around gaming, animation, AI and other niche interests, giving creators in these fields an opportunity to reach a large and engaged audience beyond YouTube.
However, becoming a true global competitor to YouTube will not be easy for Bilibili, as YouTube already has an extensive worldwide network of creators, viewers and advertisers.
One of Bilibili’s distinctive features is its “Danmu” or bullet comments, which allow viewers’ comments to appear directly on the screen while a video is playing. The feature creates an interactive experience and gives users a stronger sense of being part of the community.
If Bilibili succeeds in expanding its global user and creator base, competition in the online video market could increase further, potentially opening new revenue opportunities for content creators around the world.
