Ishaq Dar Meets UN Secretary-General, Praises Pakistan’s Efforts

Pakistan reaffirms strong commitment to the United Nations and longstanding partnership

Bishkek: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and security.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the United Nations and its longstanding partnership with the global body.

Ishaq Dar appreciated the UN Secretary-General’s leadership in advancing the role of the United Nations in addressing global challenges.

The two leaders also discussed the regional situation, preparations for the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, and ongoing matters concerning Pakistan and the United Nations at the Security Council.

According to the Foreign Office, António Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in multilateral diplomacy and praised the country’s efforts to promote regional peace and security.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar also invited the UN Secretary-General to visit Pakistan. António Guterres accepted the invitation, while the dates for his visit will be finalized through mutual consultation.

The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to emphasize multilateral cooperation and its engagement with international institutions on regional and global issues.

Both sides expressed their commitment to maintaining close engagement and strengthening cooperation on matters of mutual interest through the United Nations framework.
