GTA 6 Leaks Overshadow Rockstar’s Planned Extended Look

More than 18 months after the release of the previous trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games is preparing to give fans a new extended look at the highly anticipated title. However, the planned preview has been overshadowed by a series of apparent leaks showing footage from the game.

Rockstar has not publicly commented on the leaked material, but its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has taken legal action. Court filings in New York reportedly seek information from Microsoft-owned GitHub and Discord about accounts suspected of distributing copyrighted GTA 6 material. Several leaked clips have also been removed following copyright complaints.

Former Rockstar technical director Obbe Vermeij, who worked on GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, said the company has always maintained a strict culture of secrecy. He believes the leaks are unlikely to have any lasting impact on the game’s success.

IGN journalist Wesley Yin-Poole described the leaks as devastating for developers who have spent years working on the massive project. He also questioned the claim by the alleged hackers that they leaked the material in the interests of gamers, noting that cryptocurrency donations were reportedly requested alongside some releases.

Despite the controversy, experts believe GTA 6 remains one of the biggest entertainment releases in years and that most fans will ultimately judge the game based on official footage and their own experience.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC version expected later.
