Sehat Card: good news for KP govt employees
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has proposed introducing a special top-up health package for government employees under the Sehat Card Plus programme.
According to a local news channel report, a meeting on the Sehat Card Plus programme was held in Peshawar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The meeting reviewed measures to make the health insurance programme more organized, effective and financially sustainable.
Several proposals were discussed during the meeting, including expanding Sehat Card coverage for costly medical treatments, increasing service rates and introducing a dedicated top-up health package for government employees.
Under the proposed package, government employees could receive additional healthcare coverage beyond the existing facilities available through the Sehat Card Plus programme. The proposal is aimed at improving access to treatment and providing greater financial support to employees facing expensive medical procedures.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said health and education remain among the government’s top priorities in line with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The chief minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to reform and modernize basic health centres across the province. He said the objective of these reforms is to ensure that quality healthcare facilities are available to people closer to their homes and communities.
Afridi emphasized that providing quality healthcare to the public remains a key objective of the provincial government. He directed officials to address issues related to health and education without unnecessary delays and ensure timely implementation of decisions.
The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen the overall functioning of the Sehat Card Plus programme. Officials were directed to improve monitoring mechanisms and take effective steps to prevent the misuse of Sehat Card facilities.
The proposed top-up package for government employees, if approved and implemented, could provide additional healthcare support to a significant number of provincial government employees and their families.
The provincial government is also considering other measures to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of the health insurance programme, with a focus on expanding treatment coverage and ensuring better healthcare services for beneficiaries.
