16 FBR Officers Found Holding Dual Citizenship and Green Cards

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed that 16 of its officers hold foreign citizenship or green cards.

According to official documents, 10 of the officers belong to the Inland Revenue Service, while six are from the Pakistan Customs Service. The documents show that 10 Grade-20 officers possess dual nationality or green cards, while five Grade-19 officers also hold dual citizenship.

Under government rules, civil servants are required to declare any foreign citizenship, permanent residency or green card. FBR officers had been directed to submit details of their dual nationality by July 8, but several officers reportedly failed to submit their declarations even after the deadline.

The documents state that providing incorrect information or failing to submit the required declaration is considered misconduct. Disclosure of foreign citizenship, green cards and permanent residency is mandatory for government employees.

Government regulations particularly require officials working in sensitive departments such as revenue and customs to declare their foreign nationality and assets to address potential conflicts of interest.

The disclosure comes at a time when the FBR has collected Rs1,722 billion in taxes during the past two months.

However, the FBR has not yet issued an official statement regarding what action, if any, will be taken against officers who failed to submit their declarations.

The revelation has raised questions about compliance with government disclosure rules, particularly among officials serving in sensitive revenue and customs positions.
