Learn IC Design, Earn Rs150,000+ Monthly in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Young engineers trained in Integrated Circuit (IC) design can earn starting salaries of Rs150,000 or more per month in Pakistan, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication informed the National Assembly.
The ministry said the government is taking steps to promote specialised technology skills and create new employment opportunities for young engineers in Pakistan’s growing high-tech sector.
As part of these efforts, an advanced training programme was completed with financial support from the ministry’s subsidiary, National Technology Fund (Ignite), in collaboration with FAST-NUCES.
Under the programme, 30 talented engineers from 20 districts across Pakistan were selected, including seven women. The participants received specialised training in IC design, VLSI verification, System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture and industry-standard design tools.
The engineers also gained practical exposure to chip tape-out and semiconductor fabrication processes, providing them with skills relevant to the emerging semiconductor industry.
According to the ministry, the programme achieved encouraging results. Of the 30 participants, 23 engineers secured jobs in Pakistan’s emerging semiconductor sector soon after completing their training, while the remaining seven enrolled in master’s degree programmes to pursue higher education and further strengthen their expertise.
Information provided by Ignite showed that entry-level professionals working in IC design and verification can earn Rs150,000 or more per month, reflecting the growing demand for specialised talent in the field.
The ministry said increasing global demand for semiconductors and microchips could create new career and employment opportunities for Pakistani engineers in the high-tech sector.
The government, through Ignite and the Ministry of IT, is focusing on strengthening Pakistan’s capabilities in chip design, semiconductor technology and advanced digital skills.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at enabling Pakistan to play a stronger role in the global technology market, developing modern skills and creating high-value employment opportunities for young people.
The participation of seven women was also highlighted as an important step toward increasing female representation in advanced technology fields.
The government believes that expanding similar training programmes could provide thousands of young Pakistanis with opportunities in emerging sectors, including semiconductor technology, IC design and chip development.
